It’s a “life-changing opportunity and the beginning of another journey,” according to NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman, and that journey officially begins at 7 p.m. Thursday.

The opening round of the 2022 Upper Deck NHL Draft goes live from the Bell Centre in Montreal. ESPN will provide coverage but fans without cable can watch via live stream on Direct TV, fuboTV (free trial) or Sling TV.

The Canadiens own the No. 1 pick, and it appears 18-year-old Shane Wright, No. 1 on NHL Central Scouting’s final ranking of North American skaters, could be first name called Thursday.

Wright, a center with Kingston of the Ontario Hockey League, has some competition, though.

Winger Juraj Slafkovsky, from Finland’s top pro league, and center Logan Cooley, part of USA Hockey’s National Team Development Program, are potential No. 1s.

Cooley is committed to the University of Minnesota while Slafkovsky was named MVP at the ‘22 Beijing Olympics while playing for Slovakia.

WATCH: Direct TV, fuboTV (free trial), Sling TV.

In addition, NTDP left winger Cutter Gauthier and centers Matthew Savoie and Conor Geekie, who play for Winnipeg of the Western Hockey League, should go early.

Rounds 2-7 will begin at 11 a.m. on Friday.
