You didn't get into this field for an ordinary job.
Neither did we.
Gateway Family Services is a one-of-a-kind clinical environment — rooted in the barn, grounded in science, and built on the belief that real healing happens in real relationships. If you’re a clinician, intern, or equine professional hungry to do the most meaningful work of your career, you’ve found your people.
WHY GATEWAY
This isn't a cubicle. It's a calling.
Most clinical settings ask you to see as many clients as possible and document everything in between. Gateway is different.
Here, your office might be a round pen. Your co-therapist might have four legs. And the framework guiding your work comes from one of the most respected trauma researchers in the world — Dr. Bruce Perry’s Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics.
We’ve built a team of clinicians who are hungry to grow, humble enough to keep learning, and smart enough to know that relationship is the engine of every intervention. If that sounds like you, we want to hear from you.

WHAT WORKING AT GATEWAY ACTUALLY LOOKS LIKE:

CLINICAL DEPTH YOU WON'T FIND ANYWHERE ELSE
Train and practice in EMDR, Natural Lifemanship, Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics, and equine-assisted, play, sand, art, and nature-based therapies. This isn’t a checklist — it’s a clinical identity.

SUPERVISION THAT ACTUALLY DEVELOPS YOU
Close mentorship from experienced, trauma-specialized clinicians who are invested in your growth — not just your productivity. We believe the best clinicians are made through relationship, not just training hours.

A MISSION WORTH SHOWING UP FOR
Every day at Gateway, you’re part of something larger than a caseload. You’re transforming Central Illinois — one child, one family, one veteran at a time. That means something here.
FIND YOUR PLACE ON OUR TEAM

Where your clinical identity gets built.
Gateway is not a typical internship. From your first week, you’ll be learning and practicing approaches that most clinicians spend years trying to access — NMT, EMDR, Natural Lifemanship, and the full spectrum of experiential therapies.
You’ll receive close, individualized supervision from licensed clinicians who take your development seriously. You’ll work with real clients facing real challenges. And you’ll leave Gateway with a clinical toolkit and a professional identity that sets you apart in any room.
What you’ll receive:
∙ Intensive training in the Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics (NMT)
∙ EMDR training and supervised practice
∙ Natural Lifemanship equine-assisted therapy training
∙ Experiential therapy exposure: play, sand tray, art, and nature-based approaches
∙ Close mentorship and comprehensive supervision
∙ Real field experience with individuals and families across the lifespan

We’re actively looking for licensed or provisionally licensed Counselors, Marriage & Family Therapists, Psychologists, and Social Workers who want more than a standard outpatient role.
At Gateway, you’ll work within a trauma-specialized, relationally-driven framework alongside a team that genuinely supports each other. You’ll have access to ongoing training, a unique clinical setting, and the satisfaction of watching clients experience real transformation.
We’re not for everyone. But if you’re the kind of clinician who reads about the developing brain on your days off and gets excited about equine-assisted therapy — you might be exactly who we’re looking for.
We are actively hiring for:
∙ Licensed Counselors (LCPC, LPC)
∙ Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSW)
∙ Marriage & Family Therapists (LMFT)
∙ Psychologists
∙ Provisionally licensed clinicians seeking quality supervision toward full licensure
Send your resume to info@gatewayfamilyservices.org — tell us what draws you to Gateway and what kind of clinician you’re working to become.

Ready to do the work you trained for?

Your love of horses belongs here.
The horses at Gateway aren’t props — they’re partners in the therapeutic process. We’re looking for experienced equine professionals who understand horses at a deep level and are passionate about the role animals play in human healing.
This isn’t trail riding. This is meaningful, skilled work at the intersection of horsemanship and therapeutic practice. If you have extensive horse experience and a heart for this kind of mission-driven work, we’d love to talk.
What we’re looking for:
∙ Extensive experience with horses — training, starting, therapeutic riding, or competitive
showing
∙ Comfort working with a variety of horse
personalities and temperaments
∙ Strong collaboration and communication skills
∙ A genuine passion for the mission of Gateway

Our residency program is designed for clinicians who want an immersive, intensive launch into the Gateway model of care. Selected residents receive concentrated training across our full clinical framework — NMT, EMDR, Natural Lifemanship, and the complete range of experiential therapies — in a supported, mentored environment.
This is for the clinician who doesn’t want to wait years to build a specialized practice. It’s an accelerated pathway into the kind of clinical work most people spend a decade reaching.
Spots are limited and competitive. If you’re interested, tell us about yourself and what draws you to this kind of work.

The Gateway Residency Program
WE ARE BUILDING SOMETHING WORTH BEING PART OF.

Gateway Family Services exists because Central Illinois families deserve access to the best trauma-informed care available — and because clinicians deserve a place to do their best work. If you share that conviction, we’d be honored to have you on the team.
