Michael Remole, MA LCPC, NCC, I/ECHMHC

Passionate Mental Health Professional with Over 20 Years of Clinical Experience

Michael Remole is a passionate, driven mental health professional with over twenty years of clinical experience, specializing in trauma and the neuroscience of healing. Raised around horses, Michael trained American Quarter Horses as a youth and embraces Winston Churchill’s observation that “there is something about the outside of the horse that is good for the inside of man.” That conviction led him to combine equine work with clinical practice and to earn a master’s degree in Clinical Counseling from Ashland Theological Seminary.

In 2014 he founded Gateway Family Services to deliver trauma-informed care grounded in the Neurosequential Model (Bruce D. Perry, MD, PhD) and the Natural Lifemanship Trauma-Focused Equine Assisted Psychotherapy model. Michael has extensive experience with high-risk populations in urban and rural settings, focusing on adolescents, adults in crisis, and families involved in foster care and the juvenile justice system. He developed and launched the Rising Tide Conference, a transcontinental hybrid trauma conference with 13 co‑host sites worldwide.

Committed to systemic, family-centered approaches that support sustainable change, Michael completed Phase III/Mentor training with the Neurosequential Network and holds certifications as an Infant–Early Childhood Mental Health Consultant and EMDR Child Specialist. He created the HORSES Model of Reflective Supervision to guide the reflective practice for those in the clinical setting, with a focus on those providing animal-assisted therapy/animal-assisted intervention.  He is a graduate of the UC Davis Infant–Parent Child Institute (2024) and the Napa Infant Mental Health Fellowship — Reflective Supervision Academy (2025). Michael is a published contributor (chapter on animal-assisted therapy in The Handbook for Complex Trauma and Dissociation) and provides training and consultation at local, national, and international levels.
