A Journey of Connection: Celebrating 32 Years of Transformation

Updated: Sep 24, 2025

It was still dark on that brisk fall morning when I climbed out of bed and jumped into our blue Oldsmobile to head to Grandma and Grandpa Remole's house. As I sat in their kitchen, I felt an overwhelming sense of excitement and anticipation. It was my birthday, and I knew my parents were up to something special. I remember sitting at the kitchen table with my sweet Grandma Remole, my curiosity growing with each passing moment.

“Michael, we are ready for you to come outside!”

As I stepped outside, I entered a world that felt like a dream. There in front of me stood a beautiful black pony, just shy of being a horse, and I could barely contain my excitement as I heard the words, “This is BLACK JACK!”

That moment, 32 years ago, forged an incredible connection that remains forever etched in my heart. It’s remarkable to reflect on that day and realize that, because of it, seven therapists will walk out of that same kitchen this week to provide over 110 clients with a unique gift—an opportunity for deep, meaningful connections with our horses. These genuine interactions provide moments of healing, building healthier relationships, and ultimately change lives.

“There is something about the outside of a horse that is good for the inside of a man.”

~ Winston Churchill

As I share this story, my aspirations for Gateway Family Services continue to evolve. I strongly believe there are countless life-changing moments on the horizon—moments that will profoundly impact lives through meaningful connections with our horses. However, these transformative experiences can only happen with your continued support. Will you partner with us to ensure that more people have access to these life-changing connections?

Will you donate and give the gift of healing?
