Recently, I was out for a little run by our house & came across a sign that gave me a lot to think about.
I have gotten out of the habit of running & have found that I’ve gotten more relaxed in my pace, distance and frequency of my runs. On this particular run, I saw a few signs that inspired me—even tho they were not intended for me!
I was struggling with motivation & my mind was quickly shifting to “end the pain & go back to get things done.” And then I saw a sign posted on a telephone pole up ahead. I made a deal with myself, run hard up to that pole to read what that sign said. I started to laugh when the sign came into focus and I realized what it said...”keep going!”
Usually, I am quite defiant and do not do well following rules, but I decided to listen to the sign and push on a little farther. Immediately, the thoughts flooded my mind of “go back home, turn around, be productive at home.” I struggled to fight them & then, another sign...”keep going!” This time the laugh became audible. I felt as if I was now on some show about to find myself being punked. I pushed & kept running.
As I kept running, it began to sprinkle, I pushed harder. Eventually it was pouring! I kept reminding myself of those little signs KEEP GOING! I was soaked but I finished despite the storm.
Finishing the last portion of my run sopping wet, I began to think about how this relates to our lives. How easy is it to get down, get discouraged and lose hope. How many times do we face “storms“ in life and want to give up? We need motivation. We need encouragement. Each one of us is on our own journey and each one of us is doing the best we can with what we’ve been given.
Today, we say “Keep going” to each of you in whatever capacity you need this. Keep going!
